Hancock County Repairs Defective Courtroom
Good news litigants! The Sun-Herald reports that Hancock County has repaired its acoustically challenged courtroom. The paper reports:
I have no idea what that means. But I'm glad they fixed the problem.
It is a beautiful courtroom. Unfortunately, before the repair it had the worst acoustics of any courtroom—and perhaps any room at all—that I've ever been in.

When I started practicing law in the early 1970's, the Hancock County courtroom wasn't air conditioned, and trains rolled by on the adjacent tracks about once every 45 minutes. When they did, the proceedings came to a complete halt until the train, often lengthy, had passed. Air conditioning eventually solved that acoustics problem, as well as the need to removes one's suit coat in the summer.
Come on Jim. No A.C.? You've got to be kidding.
Next thing you'll be telling us that you didn't have fax machines and email back in the day.
I have tried a case in that courtroom, and I couldnt even hear the witness testimony. I doubt the jurors or the Judge could either. This was a problem for about a year now. Glad to see they have done something about it.
Philip, when I started in 1971 we had an elderly secretary who still used carbon paper and onion skin (go look it up) for copies because she was afraid of the Xerox copier. Seriously.
