The Clarion-Ledger reported Thursday that retired Coahoma County Circuit Court Judge Joe Webster died in a car wreck on Wednesday in Clarksdale. [Correction: Judge Webster was a County Court judge].
Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Bill Waller, Jr. issued a statement:
He is one of the outstanding trial judges who has served in the state since retirement,” Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. said in a news release. “He has offered his services selflessly to assist the court in the fair and efficient administration of justice. His decisions are always sound and based on correct analysis of the law and application to the facts. He will be missed by all of the judiciary and the citizens of the state.”
Judge Webster became prominent in Jackson when he presided over the 2007 trial of former Mayor Frank Melton resulting from Melton’s alcohol fueled vigilante style raid of a Jackson duplex.
