I love the Dilbert comic strip. Even if you don’t think it’s funny, its worth reading to get an idea of how things operate in large companies and law firms.
The February 21 strip was pure Wally genius. Click here to see it. In the strip, Wally explains to the young Asok how to balance work and life. According to Wally, the secret is to have no life and do no work.
Execution of the work-life balance is a challenge for many lawyers. Many lawyers try to have both a job and a life. But we all know it’s not possible in this profession. But you can’t work all the time and have no life–the balance is still way off. We all know lawyers who do this. They’re miserable.
The only way it works is to not work and have no life. Now that I think about it, I’ve known lawyers who were living this mantra. And they didn’t seem to have a care in the world.
Wally is right.
